The 10 minute concept

Have you ever decided that you will start learning an instrument, do yoga or write a book, but after 2 weeks you still haven’t even started any of them? Or when you finally decide and kickoff a task, you find yourself overthinking or losing your attention after 20 minutes? Don’t worry you’re not alone, that’s why I decided to list some of my advice on how to kill procrastination and be more productive.
The problem with me is that I always overload myself with tasks, I start completing them but after some time I find myself thinking about that dog I’ve met the other day, or what I want to eat. As if that is not enough I always start to overthink about the things I’m doing. And after some time I lose all motivation and just return back to my comfort zone scrolling through twitter.
There is a simple solution to this problem and that is the 10 minute concept. What even is that you may ask..Well, let me explain.

Next time when you take your phone in your hand, put it down instead and think of what goals you have set for yourself. For example today you said you’re going to study those 20 pages that are waiting for you. Instead of learning all 20 pages, why don’t you start with a simple 10 minute rule. You study for 10 minutes (could be even more if you feel concentrated) and after that you take a rest. In the time of rest you can do things to improve your attention span:
– drink tea,
– chew a gum,
– listen to music,
– take a short walk outside,
– meditate
(it will improve your focus!)

After the brake you can continue with your next 10 minutes. You might not even study the same subject but continue to study another, or do other things you have set for yourself. The point is to start learning and doing it everyday for at least 10 minutes. That way you won’t lose your attention but you will actually learn! (plus there is no more excuses that you don’t have time for it.)

This will help you not only at studying but other goals you have for yourself. For example you can learn a language or start a blog. 🙂
The most important part is consistency. It doesn’t mean that you can’t scroll true instagram or twitter never again, but just think of how much time do you actually spend on there.

Thanks for visiting my page, I hope you find this useful and it will help you. Let me know how it goes! Mimi
